Job Title: BESS Project Developer
Location: Flexible / Remote
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are looking for a technically proficient and results-driven BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) Project Developer to lead the development of grid-scale energy storage projects. You will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle-from site identification and feasibility analysis to permitting, grid connection, and pre-construction readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess potential sites for BESS deployment, including land acquisition, permitting, and grid interconnection feasibility.
  • Lead technical due diligence and coordinate with engineering teams on system design and optimization.
  • Prepare and submit grid connection applications; liaise with TSOs/DSOs to secure interconnection agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, legal, finance) and external stakeholders (consultants, regulators, landowners).
  • Monitor regulatory frameworks, market mechanisms, and incentive programs relevant to energy storage.
  • Support financial modeling and investment case development with technical inputs.

Required Technical Skills

  • Energy Storage Systems: Deep understanding of lithium-ion and other battery technologies, sizing methodologies, and performance characteristics.
  • Grid Integration: Knowledge of grid codes, interconnection standards, and power system behavior (e.g., frequency response, voltage control).
  • Electrical Engineering: Familiarity with single-line diagrams, SCADA systems, protection schemes, and substation design.
  • Energy Modeling Tools: Proficiency in tools such as PVSyst, HOMER, or similar for hybrid system modeling.
  • GIS & Site Analysis: Experience with GIS platforms (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) for site screening and constraint mapping.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of permitting processes, environmental impact assessments, and energy market regulations.
  • Project Management Tools: Experience using platforms like MS Project, Primavera, or similar for scheduling and resource planning.
  • Data Analysis: Strong Excel skills; experience with Python or MATLAB for technical and financial modeling is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in renewable energy or energy storage project development.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel and work cross-functionally.
