A Controls Engineer position is available in the Wilmington, MA office, supporting a wide range of project requirements including PLC programming, DCS programming, HMI/SCADA development, database management, control panel design, instrumentation specification, engineering documentation, system check-out, and commissioning support.
Key Responsibilities:
The Controls Engineer will be responsible for conceptualizing, detailing, and implementing control systems for industrial processes and machinery in alignment with client requirements. This includes developing control system architecture, selecting components, creating schematic diagrams and documentation, programming controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU), configuring HMI/SCADA systems, developing databases for historical data, and commissioning systems on-site. Proficiency in controller programming languages such as Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, and Structured Text is required. Familiarity with standard programming languages like VBA, .NET, and SQL for HMI/SCADA development is preferred.
For larger systems, experience with industrial networking and protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profibus, and Modbus is advantageous. The engineer may also design and implement fiber, wired, and wireless communication systems.
The ideal candidate will possess a broad engineering skill set and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. They may serve as a technical lead or project manager on smaller projects and provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- 5+ years of experience preferred, with capabilities in:
- PLC platforms such as Rockwell Automation
- HMI/SCADA platforms including Rockwell Automation and Inductive Automation Ignition
- DCS platforms such as Emerson DeltaV
- Field instrumentation for process control
- Electrical schematics and NEC standards
- Automation protocols: HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Traditional I/O, Profibus, Ethernet I/P, OPC, Modbus TCP/IP
- S88 Batch familiarity
- Regulatory knowledge: cGMP, 21 CFR Part 11
- GAMP5, SDLC methodologies, and validation
- SQL database experience
- Strong leadership and client relationship skills
- Ability to travel up to 25%
- Professional references, ideally including a peer and a manager
Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of seeing, color perception, hearing, speaking clearly, manual dexterity, driving, lifting, climbing, mounting/dismounting equipment, pushing, and pulling.
Work Environment:
Includes standard office settings, on-site client environments, and diverse industrial facilities. Frequent use of computers, phones, fax, and copy machines is expected.
