Project Engineering Lead
Role Summary
The Design Manager will lead the execution of infrastructure design for container terminal projects, ensuring alignment with technical standards, operational requirements, and project timelines. This role involves managing multidisciplinary design teams, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting procurement and construction phases.
Key Responsibilities
Design Execution
- Manage all design stages from concept to Issued-for-Construction (IFC) packages.
- Ensure compliance with technical requirements, regulations, and Standard Employer's Requirements (SERs).
- Coordinate civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, IT, and automation design disciplines.
- Support procurement with timely documentation for RFPs and participate in technical bid evaluations.
- Liaise with crane engineering teams to integrate crane design requirements.
- Lead design interface tracking and resolution to mitigate risks and reduce rework.
- Ensure constructability and alignment with construction execution plans.
- Oversee contractor design compliance and ensure timely delivery of as-built documentation.
- Produce engineering close-out reports.
Quality Assurance & Control
- Implement structured design reviews, value engineering, and third-party verification.
- Ensure Inspection Test Plans and Quality Control Plans meet internal and international standards.
- Maintain traceability between requirements, standards, and final design documentation.
- Contribute to governance activities and stage gate readiness.
- Manage design risk registers and assess impacts of design changes.
Qualifications & Experience
- 7-10 years of experience in infrastructure design, preferably in container terminals and marine structures.
- Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams through complex design phases.
- Strong knowledge of local permitting processes (e.g., PANYNJ TCAP), international design codes, and engineering best practices.
- Experience translating operational needs into technical design outputs.
- Prior experience within a client organization and in terminal construction is desirable.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, or related field.
- Master's degree in Engineering Management or Construction Management is highly desirable.
- Professional Engineering (PE) registration in the U.S. preferred.
- Experience with regulatory bodies such as Port Authorities and the US Army Corps of Engineers is a plus.
- Certifications such as PMP or APM Chartered status are advantageous.
