A global provider of electric power systems equipment is looking to bring on an Electrical Engineer to join the Technology & Breakthrough Innovation department. They are responsible for driving the creation of new opportunities for the company by utilizing new technologies and enabling breakthrough product development for the quickly evolving smart grid. They are looking to bring on a creative and determined individual to manage, support, and add new capabilities to the lab.
*This position requires working in the Chicago office in person between 3-5 days/week
*Travel nationally and internationally up to a week every quarter
Electrical Engineer Responsibilities
- Model the physical interface between devices and the power system within Simulink, generate the input signal that is read by the control unit of the devices, and process the signal that the control unit puts out. *These devices include interrupting systems (reclosers) and power electronic devices (inverters and PWM signals).
- Automate the RT/HIL simulation to include conversion of grid models, device configuration through the appropriate interfaces, test generation and execution, compliance verification, and report generation.
- Set up an Ethernet/TCP/IP communication network, with the ability to control the flow of packets in order to simulate the contingencies of a wireless communication system.
- Support and guide engineers & researchers as they prepare new designs to be simulated and tested.
- Troubleshoot issues both in hardware and software
- Act as the technical point of contact for suppliers of simulation platforms
- Continuously improving one's education of both simulation solutions and 3rd party power plant system equipment, which may include traveling for external training.
- Evaluate, purchase, and integrate additional hardware and software components for the simulation laboratory.
