Position: Project Finance Manager
Summary: The opportunity is tailored to individuals who combine a strong commercial background, a high degree of result orientation with suitable experience in the wind- and solar energy field. The successful candidate will work on finance-related aspects of renewable energy projects in the client's project portfolio in Canada and the US. As such, the candidate will work closely with project development managers and technical & legal experts. The position directly reports to the CFO.
Qualifications:
Financial Modelling:
- Develop, maintain and adapt complex financial models for wind and solar projects in line with project needs and in accordance with modelling best practices.
- Perform scenario and / or Monte-Carlo analysis in financial models to support corporate decision making.
- Document model assumptions and identify risks from first project idea throughout the construction phase of a project.
- Perform internal model audits, report on logical consistency / arithmetical accuracy and provide corrections / modelling improvements as necessary.
Project Finance Transactions:
- Preparation of reports and documentation, including financing teasers, slide decks, and technical memoranda.
- Negotiation of term sheets and transaction documents for senior debt and tax equity investment.
- Manage due diligence processes and data rooms, and act as a primary point of contact.
- Take ownership of transaction progress and report to senior management.
In-house Development Support:
- Evaluate new project opportunities and present recommendations together with the Development Manager.
- Review state policy, legislation, compliance filings & research, understand, and document industry activity and commodity pricing through benchmarking and competition analysis.
- Support in creation & tracking of project specific development budgets.
- Closely collaborate with development and engineering teams to identify project finance needs & help out with financial questions throughout project development.
Proactive Outreach:
- Identify new sources of debt funding to optimize financing costs.
- Establish relationships with equity investors as pipeline requires.
- Build and maintain a network of contacts in the industry and attend industry events.
- Keep up to date on trends in the renewable energy sector in general as well as renewable energy project finance in particular.
Requirements:
Experience:
- Min. 3 years of relevant work experience in the field of finance / project finance.
- Experience with tax equity investments for renewable projects.
- Wind and/or solar energy industry experience in the US and/or internationally.
Skills:
- Excellent financial modelling skills in MS Excel (incl. at least a basic understanding of VBA).
- Ability to precisely dissect complex agreements (financing contracts, power purchase contracts, etc.) and come up with / draft improvement ideas.
- Self-organized team-player with a detail-oriented way of working & entrepreneurial mindset.
Education:
- Solid knowledge of financial markets & the renewable energy sector.
- University degree (master's degree or other certifications such as CFA will be looked upon favorably)
- Valid driver's license.
