The Senior Biologist and Wetland Specialist would support all aspects of environmental related projects and mentor other staff members. Specific types of projects include biological surveys, biological assessments, aquatic resources/wetland delineations, wetland mitigation plans and resource analysis for NEPA documentation. The position would be responsible for data collection, field surveys, agency coordination, environmental permitting, and authorship of technical reports.
Responsibilities:
- Performs natural community and wildlife habitat assessments, stream assessments and vegetation surveys
- Collects, interprets and analyzes data
- Field application of wetland delineation methods, including federal delineation parameters and jurisdictional determination guidelines
- Prepares technical memorandums and reports including biological assessments, habitat mitigation plans, and aquatic resources (wetland) delineations
- Prepares resource sections of NEPA analyses
- Leads the development of environmental documents
- Performs quality control and quality assurance on memorandums and reports with associated duties
- Ability to work in field locations, sometimes remote, and sometimes requiring physically challenging terrain
- Assists in preparation for, and participation in, public information meetings and hearings
- Excellent verbal, technical writing, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner, and to work collaboratively in a team-focused atmosphere
- Familiarity with federal/state environmental regulations, especially those related to wetlands, waters, and wildlife
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Botany or Ecology
- Minimum 10 years related experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- A working knowledge of the NEPA process, and environmental document preparation
- Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze information, make sound decisions and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated experience for large and small environmental permitting projects
