Responsibilities:
Design and Planning:
- Develop detailed electrical distribution system designs, including substation layouts, feeder configurations, and protection schemes.
- Analyze load data and conduct load flow and short-circuit studies to determine system capacity and reliability.
Project Management:
- Lead and oversee distribution system projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to budgets and timelines.
- Coordinate with project teams, including engineers, technicians, and contractors, to ensure successful project execution.
Equipment Selection:
- Specify and select electrical distribution equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and voltage regulators.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend their integration to enhance system performance.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards in all distribution system designs and operations.
- Prepare and submit necessary documentation for regulatory approvals.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
- Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis to resolve distribution system issues promptly.
- Develop maintenance plans and procedures to optimize the reliability of distribution infrastructure.
Safety and Reliability:
- Implement safety measures and protocols to minimize electrical hazards and ensure system reliability.
- Perform reliability assessments and implement improvements to enhance system uptime.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records, drawings, and documentation related to distribution system projects.
- Generate technical reports, including feasibility studies and performance assessments.
Team Leadership and Mentorship:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians within the department.
- Collaborate with colleagues to foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; a Master's degree is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Several years of experience in electrical distribution system design and project management.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and power system analysis tools.
- Strong knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to safety and environmental considerations in engineering practices.
Additional Information:
- This is a remote position, but occasional travel may be required for on-site assessments, client meetings, and project inspections.
- The Senior Electrical Distribution Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager or Director, depending on the organizational structure.
