Job Summary: As a Solid Waste Engineer, you will play a vital role in designing and implementing effective waste management strategies for our clients. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, and optimizing waste disposal and recycling systems to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable waste practices. Your expertise in solid waste engineering will contribute to minimizing waste generation, optimizing waste diversion, and supporting our clients' environmental goals.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' waste management practices, including waste generation, collection, storage, and disposal methods.
- Develop and implement waste management plans, including designing efficient waste collection and recycling systems, considering factors such as waste volume, type, and regional regulations.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of various waste management strategies, considering technical, economic, and environmental aspects.
- Conduct waste audits to identify opportunities for waste reduction, recycling, and resource recovery.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to clients on waste management best practices, compliance with regulatory requirements, and sustainability initiatives.
- Prepare and review technical reports, including environmental impact assessments, feasibility studies, and waste management plans.
- Stay updated on relevant federal, state, and local waste management regulations and guidelines to ensure compliance and advise clients accordingly.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, scientists, and project managers, to develop innovative waste management solutions.
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections to monitor waste management operations, identify potential issues, and recommend improvements.
- Communicate and present findings, recommendations, and project progress to clients, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Waste Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in solid waste engineering, waste management, or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of waste management regulations, environmental laws, and industry standards in California.
- Experience in designing waste collection, recycling, and disposal systems, including familiarity with waste equipment and technologies.
- Proficiency in waste auditing techniques and waste characterization studies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex waste management challenges and develop effective solutions.
- Strong project management abilities, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a remote work environment.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications and tools, such as AutoCAD, GIS, and waste management software.
