As a Senior Substation Physical Engineer, you will take on a senior-level role focused on the physical aspects of substation design and construction. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring that our substation projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. In this role, you will also provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, contributing to their professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
Detailed Substation Layouts: Develop and oversee the creation of comprehensive substation physical layouts, including the placement of transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and other components, optimizing space and ensuring efficient operations.
Grounding Systems: Design and engineer grounding systems for substations to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment, including grounding electrode systems and ground grids.
Foundation Design: Lead the design of substation foundations, taking into account soil conditions, equipment loads, and structural integrity, while ensuring compliance with local building codes.
Equipment Specifications: Provide detailed specifications for substation equipment, including specifications for transformers, circuit breakers, and supporting structures, considering cost, performance, and reliability.
CAD and Modeling: Utilize advanced computer-aided design (CAD) software and modeling tools to create precise and optimized substation layouts, schematics, and 3D models.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all substation physical designs and installations strictly adhere to relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations, including IEEE and NESC guidelines.
Project Leadership: Assume a leadership role in managing substation projects, including comprehensive project planning, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and oversight of construction activities.
Quality Assurance: Establish and rigorously enforce quality control processes to guarantee the accuracy, reliability, and safety of substation physical designs and installations, including inspections and quality audits.
Client Engagement: Foster strong client relationships by actively engaging with clients, understanding their specific needs, and providing expert recommendations and guidance throughout project execution.
Mentorship: Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing to junior engineers, supporting their professional development and growth within the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in substation physical design and construction.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for PE licensure.
- Proficiency in advanced CAD software, engineering analysis tools, and substation design software.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations related to substation physical design and construction.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead substation projects with a strong focus on safety, quality, and excellence.
