Electrical Project Engineer - System Studies

Position: Electrical Studies Engineer - Renewables Team

We are seeking an Electrical Studies Engineer to join our renewables team. This role is critical to the design and optimization of utility-scale renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and battery storage facilities. The Electrical Studies Engineer will focus on conducting comprehensive electrical system studies to ensure compliance with interconnection requirements and seamless integration of renewable assets into the power grid. You'll work alongside a highly skilled and collaborative team dedicated to delivering exceptional professional services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with lead design engineers and clients to develop electrical models and studies supporting project design.
  • Create detailed system models representing the plant in design and perform studies such as:
    • Short circuit and effective grounding
    • Load flow and reactive power
    • Harmonics
    • Insulation coordination
    • Power and energy loss
    • Concentric neutral induced voltage
    • Arc flash
    • Grounding and lightning risk assessments
    • Transient studies for switching and overvoltage
  • Prepare clear, concise written reports summarizing study results within project timelines.
  • Coordinate with internal project leads, project managers, and external stakeholders, including clients and independent engineers.
  • Review and validate study work performed by others to ensure quality before client submission.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in electrical plant design and system studies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Systems, or a related field with a power systems focus.
  • Experience with utility-scale renewable energy systems (wind, solar, battery storage), emphasizing system design and grid integration.
  • Solid understanding of electrical system studies such as short circuit, load flow, and reactive power.
  • Proficiency with modeling software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory (preferred), ETAP, PSCAD, SKM Power*Tools, PSSE, PSLF, or similar.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Systems, or a related field.
  • Advanced proficiency with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, WinIGS, and/or CDEGS.
  • Experience with Python and/or VBA
