A leading Independent Energy services company is looking for a Field Technician to help service their assets in the Carlsbad and Loving NM region. This organization recently received a massive investment in the last 1-2 years and is trying to triple their headcount in the coming years!

Position Overview - Field Technician

The Field Technician is responsible for conducting and leading inspection, operation, and maintenance activities across substations and electrical infrastructure. This includes overseeing periodic inspections of T&D assets owned by both the organization and its clients. The role also involves supporting outage response, preparing switching instructions, coordinating contractor activities, and maintaining clear communication with clients regarding outages.


Key Responsibilities - Field Technician

  • Conduct monthly, annual, and ad hoc inspections of high-voltage (HV) substations, transmission lines, and medium-voltage (MV) distribution lines.
  • Perform routine maintenance and coordinate third-party service providers as needed.
  • Draft and execute HV and MV switching instructions.
  • Respond to emergencies, troubleshoot issues, and restore service.
  • Notify clients of planned and unplanned outages via phone, text, and email.
  • Maintain detailed logs of station outages, including cause, duration, and response actions.
  • Promote a safety-first culture by modeling and enforcing safety protocols and practices.

Required Qualifications & Skills - Field Technician

  • Ability to work on remote job sites around energized HV, MV, and LV electrical systems.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for inspections and project work.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, including one-line and relay diagrams.
  • Experience collaborating with third-party contractors.
  • Capability to communicate effectively with utility dispatch teams.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and protocols.
  • Skilled in using test equipment and tools for inspection and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
