Job Summary
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Generator Technician III to join an elite field service team. This position requires advanced expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of generator systems, including diesel, natural gas, and propane-powered units, as well as complex automatic transfer switches (ATS) and control systems.
Generator Technician III professionals are expected to work independently in the field, lead service projects, and provide guidance and support to junior-level technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on commercial and industrial generator systems and associated equipment.
- Troubleshoot and service complex electrical issues, engine performance problems, and control system faults.
- Conduct complete system testing, including load bank testing, frequency and voltage verification, and ATS operational testing.
- Interpret and apply wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Lead or support emergency service response efforts.
- Maintain complete and accurate service records, parts usage documentation, and technical reports.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
- Coordinate with project managers, customers, and vendors to ensure successful project completion.
- Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures at all job sites.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests as needed.
- Coordinate multi-day service projects, equipment rentals, and resource allocation to support complex repairs.
- Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating emergency response schedule when required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical school training or industry certifications preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of direct experience servicing and repairing power generation equipment or related systems.
- Strong knowledge of major generator manufacturers and associated equipment.
- Experience supporting multiple OEM platforms and automatic transfer switch manufacturers preferred.
- Proficiency using diagnostic tools, multimeters, software interfaces, and load bank equipment.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 110, NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and industry safety practices.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in outdoor and industrial environments.
- Ability to travel to customer locations and work under varying field conditions.
