Lead Electrical Engineer - Power & Energy Projects (Chicago Area)
Position Overview
A leading engineering and consulting organization is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to support the design, analysis, and execution of complex power generation and energy infrastructure projects. This individual will serve as a technical leader on multidisciplinary teams and play a key role in delivering electrical engineering solutions for projects ranging from plant upgrades and modernization efforts to new generation facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering design activities for power generation and industrial energy projects.
- Develop and review one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, and electrical calculations.
- Perform system studies including short circuit, load flow, grounding, and protection coordination analyses.
- Interface directly with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines throughout project execution.
- Provide technical oversight, mentorship, and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Support procurement activities, equipment selection, vendor evaluations, and construction support efforts.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable industry codes, standards, and quality requirements.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and technical proposal development.
Desired Background
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain.
- Experience leading electrical engineering efforts within the power generation, utility, industrial, or energy infrastructure sectors.
- Strong knowledge of medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, substations, switchgear, transformers, and protective relaying.
- Experience with power system modeling and analysis software.
- Proven ability to manage technical deliverables while coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills.
