Estimator - Mechanical Construction (Full Scope)

A well-established mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to support preconstruction efforts across a full mechanical scope, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates and supporting the pursuit of commercial and industrial construction projects.
Position Summary
The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for developing detailed cost estimates and bid packages for mechanical construction projects. This position works closely with preconstruction leadership, project managers, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure accurate pricing, scope clarity, and competitive proposals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for full mechanical construction scopes (HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal)
- Perform quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and design documents
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and addenda to assess labor, materials, equipment, and subcontract costs
- Collect and analyze historical cost data to support accurate and competitive pricing
- Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Prepare scope letters, proposals, and bid documentation
- Attend site walks, pre-bid meetings, and scope clarification meetings as required
- Confer with engineers, architects, owners, general contractors, and internal teams to resolve scope questions
- Support design-build, conceptual, budget, and hard-bid estimates
- Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to support constructability and cost-effective solutions
- Assist project managers with pricing for change orders and revised scopes
- Maintain organized, accurate estimating files and documentation
- Ensure estimating data and documents are stored in accordance with company standards
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety programs
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience estimating mechanical construction projects
- Experience estimating full mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal)
- Strong understanding of construction documents, mechanical systems, and contract requirements
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience with commercial and/or industrial projects
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Software & Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Experience with estimating software such as Accubid, Trimble, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with construction financial and project management software
- Ability to perform accurate digital take-offs

- Office-based estimating environment with occasional jobsite visits for take-offs and site walks
- Extended periods of sitting and working at a computer
