My client a respected consulting firm in the building and construction sector is seeking a Registered Roof Observer (RRO) to join their Building Science team in Atlanta, Georgia. This is a unique opportunity for professionals with a background in commercial roofing or building envelope systems to play a critical role in ensuring construction quality and performance across a variety of high-profile projects.
About the Role:
As a Registered Roof Observer, you will serve as the eyes and ears on the ground for construction quality assurance. You'll be responsible for monitoring roofing installations and building envelope systems to ensure they meet design specifications, manufacturer guidelines, and industry standards. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on-site, solving problems in real time, and working closely with contractors, architects, and project managers.
This is a travel-intensive position. The company provides full travel support, including lodging and per diem.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site inspections of roofing systems during installation to ensure compliance with project specifications, warranty requirements, and best practices.
- Document findings through detailed written reports, including photographic evidence and technical observations.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, site supervisors, and project stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure quality standards are met.
- Assist with inspections of other building envelope components, such as waterproofing, curtain walls, and cladding systems.
- Participate in field testing of roofing and enclosure systems, including water infiltration, adhesion, and uplift resistance tests.
- Support project managers with technical input, scheduling updates, and progress tracking.
- Maintain and calibrate inspection tools and testing equipment.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Contribute to internal process improvements and knowledge sharing within the team.
Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- RRO certification or 5+ years of experience in commercial roofing.
- Strong understanding of commercial roofing systems
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple site visits and reporting deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Physical ability to work at heights, climb ladders.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel, including overnight stays.
Preferred:
- Degree or coursework in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related technical field.
- Familiarity with building codes, ASTM and AAMA standards, and roofing manufacturer guidelines.
- Experience with digital reporting tools and inspection software.
