Structural Engineer
A growing structural engineering firm with offices throughout Southern California is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join its team. Openings are available in El Segundo, Irvine, Pasadena, and San Diego. This role offers a balanced mix of design work and field-based structural observations, ideal for someone who enjoys both technical problem-solving and real-world application.
The firm works on a wide range of building types and structural systems, and the Project Engineer will play a key role in delivering high-quality solutions across multiple projects. You'll collaborate with internal teams, interface with clients, and contribute to both the design and construction phases. The environment is fast-paced but supportive, with opportunities for growth and leadership.
Responsibilities
- Develop structural calculations and design sketches for new construction, renovations, and seismic retrofits.
- Coordinate with drafting staff to produce clear, code-compliant construction documents.
- Conduct site visits and perform structural observations to ensure construction aligns with design intent.
- Support construction administration tasks including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and evaluating field conditions.
- Communicate directly with clients, contractors, and consultants to resolve project-specific issues.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and drafters, providing technical guidance and feedback.
- Maintain quality control standards and ensure technical accuracy throughout all project phases.
- Manage project schedules, deliverables, and coordination efforts under the direction of a Project Manager or Principal.
- Occasionally serve as Project Manager on select assignments, overseeing design, documentation, and client communication.
- Stay current with building codes, seismic design standards, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in structural engineering, preferably with exposure to California building codes and seismic design.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of structural systems including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a collaborative team environment.
- Experience with construction administration and field observation is preferred.
