Application Engineer - Material Handling
Location: Dayton, OH
A growing automation group is seeking an Application Engineer to support the design and integration of material‑handling systems, welding automation, and custom machinery. This is a hands‑on role combining technical design, customer interaction, and project support.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Support
- Develop concepts for automated systems (conveyors, weld cells, custom equipment).
- Support mechanical/electrical design of tooling, fixtures, and automation assemblies.
- Assist with BOMs, layouts, and documentation.
- Recommend components and equipment for new applications.
Customer & Project Engagement
- Gather technical requirements and translate them into engineered solutions.
- Support project quotes, proposals, and cost estimates.
- Participate in reviews and customer discussions.
Hands‑On Integration
- Support build, debug, and testing of automation systems.
- Assist with integration of robotics, weld equipment, sensors, pneumatics, and drives.
- Provide on‑site commissioning and troubleshooting support.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience with material‑handling systems (conveyors, palletizers, custom handling).
- Exposure to welding automation (robotic welding, fixtures, positioners).
- Familiarity with robotics, pneumatics, sensors, and industrial components.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics.
- Strong communication skills for customer and team interactions.
- Willingness to support on‑site commissioning in the Dayton area.
