A well-established general contractor in Seattle seeks a Heavy Civil Estimator to prepare thorough cost estimates and bid proposals for infrastructure projects, such as highways, bridges, utilities, and earthwork. This role supports competitive bidding and project delivery without compromising on quality or safety.
Responsibilities
- Analyze construction documents (plans, specs, geotechnical reports) to prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets.
- Perform quantity take-offs and calculate costs for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor/vendor quotes; ensure scope completeness and competitiveness.
- Participate in pre-bid/site visits and collaborate with project teams and stakeholders on constructability and means/methods.
- Maintain up-to-date unit cost databases, historical cost records, and pricing trends.
- Support value engineering, risk identification, bid strategy, and contract documentation.
Experience & Skills
- 5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil, structural, or infrastructure projects (highways, bridges, utilities, earthwork).
- Strong technical knowledge of civil construction methods, materials, equipment, and industry standards.
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Agtek) and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and regulatory documents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Familiarity with public sector bidding and DOT specifications (e.g., WSDOT) is a plus.
- Capable of traveling to job sites and attending bid meetings in the Seattle region.
