About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated QA Civil Inspector - Airfield Infrastructure / Electrical to support aviation infrastructure projects in the Tampa area. This position is responsible for performing quality assurance inspections on active airport and airfield construction projects to ensure compliance with FAA requirements, project specifications, operational safety standards, and quality control procedures.
Education Requirements
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field
Required Qualifications
- 7-15 years of QA/QC inspection or civil construction inspection experience on aviation or heavy civil infrastructure projects
- Experience supporting runway and taxiway construction projects
- Knowledge of grading, drainage, excavation, concrete paving, asphalt paving, and utility installation inspections
- Familiarity with FAA airfield construction standards and advisory circulars
- Experience inspecting airfield electrical systems including runway and taxiway lighting, conduit systems, duct banks, signage, vault systems, and navigational aids
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, schedules, testing reports, and technical documentation
- Experience documenting field observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, and punch list items
- Strong understanding of OSHA safety standards and airfield operational safety requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work effectively in active airport operational environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Airport Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects
- Familiarity with FAA, FDOT, ASTM, AASHTO, and MUTCD standards
- Experience utilizing digital inspection and reporting systems
- Experience with aviation construction phasing and operational safety coordination
- Previous experience on large-scale airport infrastructure projects valued at $50M+
Key Responsibilities
- Perform quality assurance inspections for aviation and airfield infrastructure projects
- Monitor contractor activities and verify compliance with project plans, specifications, FAA requirements, and quality standards
- Inspect grading, excavation, earthwork, paving, drainage, and utility installation activities
- Monitor installation of airfield electrical systems, including lighting, signage, conduit, and related infrastructure
- Review construction drawings, RFIs, submittals, schedules, and testing reports
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, construction management teams, testing laboratories, airport operations personnel, and other stakeholders
- Document inspection findings, deficiencies, corrective actions, and non-conformance items through written reports and digital reporting platforms
- Verify corrective actions and perform follow-up inspections
- Monitor compliance with approved quality control plans, operational safety requirements, environmental requirements, and industry standards
- Participate in project, safety, and progress meetings
- Support punch list development and project closeout activities
- Maintain organized records of inspection reports, testing documentation, photographs, and quality-related records
- Support construction sequencing and operations within active airport environments
