Senior Civil Engineer/Project Manager - Water/Wastewater

Are you looking for a senior-level position where you can work on meaningful water infrastructure projects without sacrificing flexibility, culture or long-term career progression?

An established, highly respected civil and environmental engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer. This is an opportunity to join a specialist water team delivering critical infrastructure that protects public health, strengthens communities and improves the resilience of essential utility systems.

The business offers the technical depth and project variety of a major consultancy while retaining a genuinely people-first, collaborative culture. Employees are trusted to manage their work, encouraged to contribute ideas and supported in building careers around their individual strengths.

The Opportunity

You will support and lead the planning, design and delivery of municipal water and wastewater projects. Depending on your experience, your work may include:

  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Pump stations, pipelines and conveyance systems
  • Facility expansions, upgrades and rehabilitation projects
  • Hydraulic calculations, technical studies and design reports
  • Construction documents, specifications and cost estimates
  • Permitting, bidding and construction-phase support
  • Coordination with clients, utilities and multidisciplinary teams
  • Mentoring junior engineers and reviewing technical work
  • Supporting project management and client development activities

This position can be shaped around your strengths, whether you want to remain heavily involved in technical design, progress into project management or develop toward a broader technical leadership position.

What They Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or a related engineering discipline
  • Professional Engineer licence, or the ability to obtain one within an agreed timeframe
  • Approximately 5 or more years of relevant water/wastewater experience
  • Experience working on treatment, pumping, conveyance or municipal utility projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate designs and work effectively with clients and project teams
  • An interest in mentoring engineers and contributing to a positive team environment

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • People-first culture: Join a supportive environment where employees are treated as individuals and trusted to do their best work.
  • Flexibility: Hybrid working and flexible scheduling are available, helping employees balance project responsibilities with life outside work.
  • Meaningful projects: Work on infrastructure that directly supports clean water, environmental protection and growing communities.
  • Technical development: Learn alongside recognised water specialists and gain exposure to challenging, technically complex projects.
  • Clear career progression: Build a path toward technical leadership, project management, client leadership or people management.
  • Strong project variety: Gain experience across planning, design, delivery and construction instead of being restricted to one repetitive function.
  • Collaborative teams: Work with engineers who openly share knowledge and value different perspectives.
  • Long-term stability: Join an established consultancy with a sustained focus on public-sector water infrastructure.
  • Competitive benefits: Comprehensive health coverage, retirement support, paid time off, parental leave, professional development assistance and wellbeing-related benefits.
  • Professional support: Assistance with relevant training, continuing education and professional registration expenses.

Interested?

If you are an experienced water or wastewater engineer who wants more flexibility, meaningful technical work and a culture that genuinely invests in its people, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
