About the Opportunity
A well-established electrical contractor is seeking a Senior Electrical Estimator to join its preconstruction team in the Richmond market. This individual will play a key role in preparing competitive estimates for complex commercial, industrial, mission critical, and advanced infrastructure projects.
The position offers the opportunity to work closely with project management and operations leadership on high-profile electrical construction projects while contributing to business growth and project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead full-cycle electrical estimating from conceptual budgeting through bid submission and project turnover
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for electrical construction projects
- Develop pricing for change orders, value engineering opportunities, and scope modifications
- Analyze labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and vendor costs
- Review construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements
- Attend pre-bid meetings, project walkthroughs, and scope review meetings
- Prepare comprehensive proposal packages and scope letters
- Coordinate with project managers, operations teams, engineers, owners, vendors, and subcontractors
- Identify project risks and develop competitive bid strategies
- Support and mentor junior estimators as needed
- Maintain awareness of market pricing, labor trends, and procurement challenges
Qualifications
- 5+ years of electrical estimating experience within electrical contracting
- Strong understanding of commercial, industrial, healthcare, higher education, mission critical, data center, and institutional construction projects
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Experience developing estimates across multiple project sizes and delivery methods
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, low-voltage systems, and applicable electrical codes
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational abilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software platforms
Preferred Experience
- Electrical construction field experience
- Experience with design-build and negotiated work
- Experience estimating mission critical, data center, healthcare, or large-scale commercial projects
- Familiarity with ConEst, Accubid, Bluebeam, Trimble, or similar estimating software
- Experience managing multiple pursuits simultaneously
