Senior Project Controls Manager - Utility-Scale Solar & BESS

Reports To: Senior Director, Project and Construction Management
Location: Fully Remote (U.S.) - travel as needed
Base Salary: $150,000 - $180,000 + Bonus (DOE)

Role Overview

The Senior Project Controls Manager will lead the development and implementation of project controls systems and processes to support the successful delivery of large-scale solar and BESS projects. This role is responsible for cost management, scheduling, risk analysis, forecasting, and reporting, ensuring projects meet financial and schedule objectives. The Senior Project Controls Manager will work closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction teams to provide accurate data and actionable insights for decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Controls Leadership: Establish and maintain project controls frameworks for cost, schedule, and risk management across multiple projects.
  • Cost Management: Develop and manage project budgets, track commitments and actuals, monitor cash flow, and produce variance analyses.
  • Scheduling: Create and maintain integrated master schedules (Primavera P6/MS Project); analyze critical path and float; recommend recovery strategies.
  • Forecasting & Reporting: Prepare monthly forecasts and progress reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders; maintain KPIs for cost and schedule performance.
  • Risk Analysis: Maintain risk registers; perform quantitative risk assessments and scenario modeling to support contingency planning.
  • Change Management: Track and analyze change orders; assess impact on cost and schedule; support negotiations and approvals.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure accuracy of project data in systems; implement best practices for document control and reporting.
  • Collaboration: Partner with Project Managers and functional leads to provide timely insights and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Develop standardized tools, templates, and dashboards; train team members on project controls processes.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience: 8+ years in project controls for large-scale construction projects; at least 3-5 years in utility-scale renewable energy (solar and/or BESS).
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of cost engineering, scheduling, and risk management principles.
  • Tools: Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and cost management software; advanced Excel and reporting tools (Power BI preferred).
  • Commercial Acumen: Understanding of EPC contracts, change management, and claims analysis.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or related field.
  • Soft Skills: Analytical mindset, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to influence cross-functional teams.

Desired Qualifications

  • PMP or AACE certification (CCP, PSP) preferred.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, and document control systems.
  • Familiarity with ISO/RTO interconnection processes and renewable energy project lifecycle.

Travel

~15-25% to project sites and vendor facilities as required.


Compensation

  • Base Salary: $150,000 - $180,000
  • Bonus: Performance-based bonus opportunity
