Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)
Compensation: Up to $160,000 base salary + 20% annual bonus Travel: ~25-30%, varies seasonally
A leading renewable energy developer is seeking a Senior Engineer II to join its Operations Engineering team, supporting a fleet of 47 operational onshore wind sites across North America. This role focuses on electrical systems performance, reliability, and root cause analysis, with direct impact on long-term asset health and operational success. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, preferably from a wind turbine OEM or another owner-operator, and thrives in a hands-on, site-engaged environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct technical due diligence on electrical components, ensuring operational insights are captured during project transitions.
- Analyze failure modes in generators, converters, transformers, and control systems across the wind fleet.
- Evaluate risk and criticality of electrical component failures, including potential for catastrophic events.
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions for electrical system damages and failures.
- Support or manage third-party consultants in diagnosing major failures and developing operational solutions.
- Develop and refine specifications for component repair, refurbishment, and reliability improvements.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development and performance metrics.
- Visit active wind sites to support troubleshooting, inspections, and engineering interventions.
- Drive R&D initiatives focused on future tools, technologies, and engineering best practices.
- Ensure turbine grid compliance and oversee software update processes.
- Create and review maintenance procedures for electrical systems and components.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with asset management, operations, and project teams to support site-level engineering needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, ideally within the wind energy sector.
- Experience with utility-scale wind turbine systems and components.
- Background with a turbine OEM or owner-operator strongly preferred.
- Proven experience in root cause analysis, component specification development, and supplier engagement.
- Familiarity with industry standards, grid compliance, and data analytics tools.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and collaboration platforms (e.g., Teams).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a balance between technical rigor and practical field application.
Work Environment: This is a hybrid role based in Austin, TX, Chicago, IL or Valhalla, NY. The position involves standard office activities with regular site visits for inspections and technical support.
