Overview

A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a Transmission Line Engineer to support utility infrastructure projects throughout the Midwest. This position is responsible for leading transmission and sub-transmission line projects from initial scoping through project closeout, serving as the primary engineering point of contact for utility clients.

The role combines technical design, project management, client coordination, and mentorship responsibilities, with opportunities to work on a variety of overhead transmission projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Scope projects using internal and client project management tools.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders including right-of-way, environmental, siting, substation engineering, telecommunications, distribution, and construction teams.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, and overall execution from kickoff through completion.

Transmission Line Design

  • Design transmission and sub-transmission lines utilizing PLS-CADD.
  • Develop load sheets and construction drawings for steel pole structures.
  • Perform foundation design and analysis.
  • Prepare material lists and engineering documentation for project execution.

Engineering Standards & Documentation

  • Prepare complete Issue for Construction (IFC) packages.
  • Support development and enhancement of engineering standards and design practices.
  • Conduct quality reviews of engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable standards.

Client & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Interface directly with utility clients and key stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.
  • Maintain strong working relationships while supporting project and business objectives.
  • Contribute to technical proposals, engineering specifications, and project delivery strategies.

Cost Control & Project Support

  • Assist with project budgeting, scheduling, and change management efforts.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and improved project efficiency.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Provide technical guidance and support across project teams.

Construction Support

  • Participate in site visits and field coordination activities as needed.
  • Support construction-phase engineering, RFIs, and issue resolution.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with a hybrid work schedule.
  • Combination of in-office and remote work.
  • Occasional travel to project sites required.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design documentation.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • 4-10 years of transmission and/or sub-transmission line engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD.
  • Experience leading projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards including NESC, ASCE, and ACI.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with foundation design software such as MFAD.
