City Engineer *Public Sector Opportunity
Overview:
One of our municipal clients is looking for a City Engineer to lead and manage the Engineering division within the Public Works Department under the Supervision and support of the Public Works Director.
This position will oversee all civil engineering projects including land development, stormwater, traffic design, pavement and street improvements, lighting, facilities, and capital construction. There will be coordination with city departments, external agencies, and the public while reviewing and approving engineering plans and permits, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct engineering design, project planning, and contract management
- Oversee the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
- Review and approve infrastructure plans and environmental assessments
- Manage division budget, staffing, and consultant contracts
- Represent the City in meetings and coordinates with stakeholders
- Supervise engineering staff and ensure training and performance standards
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience as a licensed civil engineer, including 2 years in a supervisory role
- Valid California Driver's License and Professional Civil Engineer license
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, project management, budgeting, and regulatory compliance
- Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills
