Civil Engineer - Water Wastewater

Civil Engineer - Water Wastewater | Charlotte, NC

My client is a well-established, employee-focused architecture, engineering, and survey firm with a 40+ year track record of delivering high-impact infrastructure projects across the Eastcoast region and greater Mid-Atlantic. As the largest privately owned multi-disciplinary firm of its kind in West Virginia, they're now expanding their footprint into North Carolina and building out their Charlotte team with a Project Engineer to help lead water wastewater projects from concept to construction.

This is a ground-floor opportunity to help shape a growing office within a firm known for its integrity, versatility, and family-oriented culture.

What you'll be doing

  • Evaluating existing utility assets and developing recommendations for rehabilitation or replacement.
  • Supporting the design of water line and sanitary sewer line rehab and replacement projects.
  • Managing projects in a PM capacity - coordinating team members, deliverables, budgets, and client communication.
  • Monitoring construction phase performance; assisting with submittals, RFIs, correspondence, and change orders.
  • Coordinating environmental studies, permitting, alternatives analyses, and other technical deliverables.
  • Incorporating pump selection, valve sizing, and mechanical equipment layout into water/wastewater system designs.
  • Supporting troubleshooting and performance evaluation of mechanical systems during construction and commissioning.
  • Delivering formal presentations to clients, stakeholders, the public, and regulatory agencies.
  • Attending networking events, trade shows, and technical conferences to identify future project opportunities and grow client relationships.
What you'll bring
  • BS in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience (water/wastewater focus preferred).
  • PE license highly desired, candidates with a clear path to obtaining PE will also be considered.
  • Exceptional presentation and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage projects and guide junior team members.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to project sites.

Why this role
  • Comprehensive benefits: health, dental, and vision insurance; company-paid short- and long-term disability; 401(k) matching; paid time off; and tuition assistance.
  • Structured professional development, specialized training, performance bonuses, and annual salary reviews.
  • Schedule flexibility within a genuinely family-oriented, low-ego culture.
  • The chance to help build out a brand-new North Carolina presence with a firm that has long tenure and strong leadership stability.
  • Diverse municipal project pipeline where your work makes a real, lasting impact on the communities you serve.

If you're a water resources or civil engineer in the Carolinas looking for real ownership, growth, and a seat at the table as a new office scales, I'd love to connect.
