Salary: $60,000 - $100,000
Position Overview:
Seeking an Environmental Air Scientist to support scheduled and time-critical responses to site-related environmental issues, including disaster/emergency response, environmental investigations, and remedial alternative analysis. This role requires experience with air sampling and monitoring protocols, calibration and maintenance of monitoring equipment, and implementation of multi-media sampling techniques. The Environmental Air Scientist will work with senior-level oversight to develop sampling and monitoring plans, collect environmental data, and support environmental assessment and remediation projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct air sampling and monitoring activities utilizing handheld, portable, and transportable monitoring equipment.
- Develop and implement sampling, monitoring, and data collection plans with senior-level oversight.
- Collect environmental samples for field screening and laboratory analysis, including soil, groundwater, and surface water.
- Respond to releases of oil and hazardous materials and provide assessment and contractor oversight services.
- Assist with environmental site assessments consistent with U.S. EPA standards.
- Provide oversight and sampling during soil borings and monitoring well installations.
- Oversee remedial excavation activities and assist with remediation system installation and operation.
- Manage analytical data, including tabulation, QA/QC, and evaluation of results.
- Prepare plans, maps, boring logs, technical reports, and work plans.
- Perform calibration, maintenance, and operation of multi-media monitoring and sampling equipment.
- Document field activities and prepare daily and final reports.
- Maintain readiness for immediate mobilization and periodic nationwide field assignments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of recent and relevant experience with air sampling and monitoring protocols.
- Knowledge of the calibration, maintenance, deployment, use, and data collection of handheld, portable, and transportable air sampling and monitoring devices.
- Experience developing and implementing sampling, monitoring, and data collection plans.
- Experience implementing multimedia, multi-matrix sampling techniques.
- Experience collecting soil, groundwater, and surface water samples.
- Experience supporting environmental site assessments consistent with U.S. EPA standards.
- Experience managing analytical data, including tabulation, QA/QC, and evaluation.
- Ability to prepare technical reports, plans, maps, and supporting project documentation.
- Ability to exercise judgment in selecting appropriate methods and approaches for environmental investigations and data analysis.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
- Experience using, calibrating, and interpreting data from air monitoring and multi-media sampling instruments.
- Experience with Geoprobe sampling and drilling methods including HSA, ARCH, and mud rotary.
- Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) 100-800; completion of ICS coursework is a plus.
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Ability to work in Levels C/B personal protective equipment.
- Ability to utilize Level D-A PPE in potentially hazardous environments.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to support emergency response activities and nationwide field assignments.
