Junior Structural Engineer

Structural Engineer / Software Developer

Location: Atlanta, GA

Our client is a growing structural engineering consultancy seeking a Structural Engineer with a passion for technology, automation, and innovation. This is a unique opportunity for an engineer who enjoys both structural design and programming and wants to play a key role in shaping the future of engineering delivery.

The successful candidate will work on a diverse portfolio of building projects while helping develop tools and workflows that improve efficiency, automate repetitive processes, and strengthen integration between structural engineering software and BIM platforms. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys coding, problem-solving, and leveraging technology to create smarter, more effective design solutions.

The Role

As part of a collaborative engineering team, you will be involved in the analysis and design of a wide range of building structures while also contributing to the development of digital tools that enhance project delivery and engineering workflows.

Your responsibilities will include performing structural analysis and design for steel, concrete, masonry, timber, and cold-formed steel structures; preparing calculations, construction documents, and technical reports; coordinating with architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams; conducting site visits and field observations; and supporting projects through the construction phase.

In addition to traditional structural engineering responsibilities, you will help drive the firm's digital engineering initiatives. This includes developing and maintaining automation tools, creating custom applications using Python and PyRevit, integrating structural design software with BIM platforms such as Revit, automating design and QA/QC tasks, and exploring emerging technologies including AI-assisted engineering workflows.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and possess experience designing building structures using modern building codes and standards. EIT certification is required, while PE licensure is highly desirable.

Candidates should have experience using structural analysis and design software and demonstrate programming capability, particularly with Python. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and communication skills are essential, along with a genuine interest in software development and engineering automation.

Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience using PyRevit, Revit API, Dynamo, Grasshopper, or other BIM automation tools. Exposure to API integrations, cloud-based technologies, data-driven workflows, and AI or machine learning applications within engineering environments would be advantageous.

What Our Client Is Looking For

Our client is seeking a structurally focused engineer who enjoys identifying opportunities to improve processes through technology. The successful individual will bring a strong technical engineering foundation, curiosity about how software and automation can improve project delivery, and a desire to help drive innovation within a growing organization.

This role is particularly well suited to engineers interested in programming and automating structural design software, integrating engineering workflows with BIM technologies, and contributing to the development of future AI-enabled engineering solutions. The successful candidate will remain heavily involved in structural design while helping bridge the gap between engineering, BIM, automation, and emerging digital technologies.

Why Apply?

This opportunity offers exposure to complex and challenging structural projects across multiple sectors, alongside the chance to influence the development of innovative engineering technologies. You'll work within a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment where technology and innovation are actively embraced, with clear opportunities for professional growth, technical leadership, and long-term career progression.

If you're a Structural Engineer who enjoys coding, automation, BIM integration, and finding smarter ways to deliver engineering solutions, we'd welcome a confidential conversation.
