Senior Roadway Engineer

Our client, a well-established multidisciplinary engineering firm, is seeking a Senior Roadway Engineer to support transportation infrastructure projects across North Carolina and the surrounding region. This is a great opportunity for an experienced roadway engineer who enjoys leading design efforts, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to impactful public sector projects.

The Senior Roadway Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Leading roadway design projects from concept through final plans
  • Preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates in accordance with NCDOT and AASHTO standards
  • Overseeing geometric design, corridor modeling, and traffic control plans
  • Coordinating with internal teams, subconsultants, and clients
  • Mentoring junior engineers and supporting staff development
  • Assisting with proposals, scope development, and client presentations
  • Supporting project managers with technical execution and quality control

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 8 years of experience in roadway engineering
  • Strong knowledge of NCDOT standards and procedures
  • Proficiency in design software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, or similar
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina or ability to obtain
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • A collaborative mindset and interest in continued professional growth
