About the Opportunity
A leading employee-owned engineering, consulting, and construction firm is seeking an Assistant Chief Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join its growing Power Generation team.
This is a highly visible technical leadership opportunity designed for an experienced I&C professional looking to expand their influence beyond project execution and into engineering governance, technical standards, talent development, innovation, and execution strategy.
The position combines approximately 50% technical leadership and discipline stewardship responsibilities with 50% project execution leadership, serving as Lead I&C Engineer on major power generation projects.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Discipline Support
- Partner with executive engineering leadership on technical governance, standards development, quality management, and risk mitigation.
- Develop and maintain engineering procedures, specifications, templates, and design standards.
- Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives, onboarding programs, mentoring, and technical training efforts.
- Support implementation of digital engineering, automation, AI-enabled workflows, and reusable engineering tools.
- Provide technical guidance on complex engineering challenges and project-critical decisions.
Project Execution Leadership
- Serve as Lead I&C Engineer on power generation projects from concept through commissioning.
- Develop execution strategies, staffing plans, schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate globally distributed resources.
- Support proposal development, project reviews, staffing assessments, and execution planning.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, standardization, and design reuse.
- Mentor and develop engineering staff while supporting workforce planning and succession initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent engineering registration.
- 11+ years of engineering experience, with significant leadership responsibility.
- Experience serving as an EPC Lead I&C Engineer on power generation projects.
- Experience leading engineering teams, including global execution partners and subcontractors.
- Strong background in instrumentation, controls, automation, and power infrastructure projects.
Preferred Experience
- 15+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Conventional power generation, combined-cycle, simple-cycle, balance-of-plant, or plant modernization experience.
- Experience supporting Design-Build, Engineer of Record, Owner's Engineer, consulting, or EPC project delivery models.
- Expertise in:
- DCS
- PLCs
- SCADA
- HMI systems
- Industrial networking
- Cybersecurity
- Functional safety systems
- Turbine and combustion controls
- Burner management systems
- Experience in additional industries such as oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, refining, or chemical processing.
- Previous experience as a Chief Engineer, Technical Authority, Discipline Leader, or Engineering Excellence leader.
- Interest in advancing digital engineering, automation, AI-enabled engineering processes, and innovation initiatives.

Compensation: Approximately $142,000 - $261,000 base salary, depending on experience, qualifications, and location, plus comprehensive benefits and performance-based incentives.
