Development Electrical Engineer
Position Overview
Our client is a rapidly growing renewable energy company focused on the development, design, construction, and operation of distributed generation solar and energy storage projects across the United States.
The Electrical Engineer will serve as a key technical resource supporting solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects throughout the development life-cycle. This individual will lead electrical engineering efforts for 10% to 50% design packages, provide utility and interconnection expertise, and act as the primary electrical subject matter expert for internal Development, Interconnection, Preconstruction, and Procurement teams.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Design Support
- Lead electrical engineering efforts for utility, community solar, and distributed generation solar PV and BESS projects at the 10%, 30%, and 50% design stages.
- Develop and review single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, preliminary electrical designs, and conceptual project plans.
- Perform technical evaluations and feasibility assessments to support project development and early-stage decision-making.
- Provide engineering guidance to improve project performance, constructability, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
Utility Coordination & Interconnection
- Serve as the primary engineering liaison for utilities throughout the interconnection and development process.
- Support utility applications, engineering reviews, technical meetings, and interconnection studies.
- Review utility requirements and coordinate with external consultants, utilities, and engineering partners to resolve technical issues.
- Assist in evaluating system impacts, technical constraints, and interconnection strategies.
Cross-Functional Technical Leadership
- Act as the electrical engineering subject matter expert for Development, Interconnection, Preconstruction, and Procurement teams.
- Support equipment selection and technical due diligence for major electrical equipment, including inverters, transformers, switch gear, protection systems, and BESS components.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external engineering partners to ensure projects advance efficiently through development milestones.
- Provide technical recommendations regarding project design, equipment selection, and utility requirements.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Support the growth of internal BESS engineering capabilities and best practices.
- Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of AI-enabled tools and technologies that improve engineering workflows and project delivery.
- Assist with development of engineering standards, templates, and quality control procedures.
- Identify opportunities to enhance design efficiency, scalability, and technical accuracy.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3+ years of electrical engineering experience in renewable energy, power systems, utilities, consulting engineering, or related industries.
- Experience supporting solar PV projects, utility interconnection processes, power system studies, or electrical infrastructure design.
- Understanding of electrical design principles, utility requirements, and applicable industry standards including NEC and IEEE.
- Experience using AutoCAD and other electrical design software.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational and project management skills.
Preferred
- Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Familiarity with power system analysis tools such as ETAP, SKM, CYME, or similar platforms.
- Experience working directly with electric utilities and interconnection processes.
- EIT certification or progress toward professional licensure.
- Interest in automation, data analytics, AI applications, and emerging technologies within renewable energy.
