The Opportunity
The Director of Mechanical & Plumbing Engineering will serve as a technical leader responsible for establishing and evolving mechanical and plumbing design standards across a nationwide portfolio of hyperscale data center developments.
In addition to leading design strategy, this individual will mentor a team of engineers, collaborate closely with development, construction, operations, and procurement teams, and evaluate emerging technologies that improve performance, efficiency, and scalability. The role offers a unique blend of technical leadership, innovation, standardization, and strategic influence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain mechanical and plumbing engineering standards, specifications, and design frameworks across multiple data center projects.
- Lead technical reviews of design deliverables, equipment selections, and consultant work products.
- Drive innovation initiatives, including the evaluation of advanced cooling technologies and infrastructure solutions.
- Establish scalable engineering processes that improve consistency, quality, constructability, and operational performance.
- Partner with cross-functional teams throughout development, design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
- Lead value-engineering efforts focused on balancing cost, reliability, efficiency, and long-term maintainability.
- Standardize commissioning requirements, sequences of operation, and design documentation.
- Support sustainability initiatives by optimizing system performance and resource utilization.
- Mentor and develop engineering talent while fostering technical excellence throughout the organization.
Desired Background
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- PE license preferred.
- 10+ years of experience designing or delivering mission-critical, data center, or other highly complex engineering facilities.
- Deep expertise in mechanical and plumbing systems, including cooling, piping, water distribution, drainage, and supporting infrastructure.
- Experience developing engineering standards and guiding multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong understanding of design coordination, construction execution, commissioning, and operational requirements.
- Ability to influence technical decisions and communicate effectively with senior leadership and external partners.
