Joint Trench Estimator
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Joint Trench Estimator to join their team in Livermore, CA. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for dry utility and joint trench construction projects, primarily supporting new residential housing developments. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of underground utility systems, construction practices, and bid preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for joint trench and dry utility construction projects, including electrical, telecommunications, and other underground utilities
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and bid documents to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and pricing
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather pricing and technical information
- Identify potential cost risks, value engineering opportunities, and constructability considerations
- Prepare and submit complete and timely bid proposals
- Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost data, and vendor/subcontractor relationships
- Assist in post-bid reviews and project handoffs to operations teams
- Stay current with local labor rates, material costs, and industry trends in Northern California
Required Qualifications (Mandatory Requirement)
- Proven experience in dry utility / joint trench construction for new residential housing developments is required
- Candidates without this specific experience will NOT be considered
- Minimum of 3-5 years of estimating experience in underground utilities or civil construction
- Strong knowledge of joint trench systems, including electrical and telecom infrastructure
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility plans
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Northern California markets, particularly with local municipalities and utility providers
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, AGTEK, or similar takeoff/estimating tools
- Background in civil engineering, construction management, or related field
Work Environment
- Office-based role in Livermore, CA, with occasional site visits as needed
- Collaborative, fast-paced construction environment
