Summary
The Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) is responsible for delivering accurate, technically sound surveying products that meet the needs of clients and project teams. This role involves making key technical decisions, supporting project management efforts, and contributing to high‑quality survey deliverables across a variety of project types.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Exercise professional judgment to independently complete assigned tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, team leaders, and project staff.
  • Assign and manage tasks and schedules for project team members.
  • Delegate work within internal teams and ensure accuracy through established QA/QC practices.
  • Review technical documents, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Identify and communicate technical, schedule, or financial issues proactively.
  • Sign and seal survey documents as an authorized professional.
  • Assist with coordination of field crews and preparation of boundary, topographic, and construction‑related surveys.
  • Perform project research, field investigations, and boundary calculations.
  • Work on a variety of project types including residential, commercial, municipal, industrial, and mixed‑use developments.

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in surveying or civil engineering required.
  • Professional Land Surveyor license, or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months.
  • Minimum of 4 years of survey/field experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and other surveying/engineering tools.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Ability to operate technical analysis equipment and surveying instruments.
  • Capacity to coordinate multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Mentorship mindset to support less‑experienced staff.

Certificates & Licenses

  • Current PLS certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle for work purposes.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Primarily outdoor work with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk long distances on varied terrain and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Use of tools such as sledgehammers, hatchets, and shovels.
  • Flexibility in work hours due to seasonal workload.
  • Periodic travel required to project locations.
  • Proficiency with GPS and robotic total station systems (Trimble or Leica).
