We are working with a long-standing Indiana-based civil and highway contractor with decades of experience delivering heavy highway, commercial, and site development projects. The company is family-owned and has built its reputation around quality craftsmanship, safe delivery, and completing challenging projects on schedule.

Their work includes roadway construction, grading, drainage, paving, bridge-related scopes, utility construction, sewer and water, site development, subdivisions, golf courses, and athletic fields. They operate as a self-performing contractor, which gives their field teams strong control over schedule, production, quality, and jobsite execution.

Position Summary:

Our client is seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead field operations on heavy civil and site development projects across Indiana and surrounding markets. This role will be heavily focused on self-performed earthwork, grading, drainage, utilities, paving support, and large site preparation work.

This is a strong fit for someone who has come up through the field, understands production, and is comfortable managing crews, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and day to day jobsite activity. The ideal candidate will have strong commercial or industrial site development experience and a proven background in self-perform civil construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily field operations on earthwork, grading, drainage, utility, and site development projects
  • Manage self-perform crews, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and site logistics
  • Plan and coordinate daily and weekly work activities to keep projects on schedule
  • Review plans, specifications, schedules, and project documents before work begins
  • Coordinate with project managers, owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and field teams
  • Track production, manpower, equipment usage, quantities, and jobsite progress
  • Ensure materials, inspections, equipment, and crew resources are lined up ahead of schedule
  • Promote safe work practices and support a strong safety culture across the jobsite
  • Identify field issues early and work with the project team to solve them quickly
  • Maintain daily reports, progress updates, and general field documentation
  • Support quality control and ensure work is completed to project requirements
  • Build strong working relationships with owners, project partners, and internal teams
  • Help mentor field staff and set clear expectations around safety, quality, and production

Qualifications:

  • Must have commercial or industrial large site development earthwork experience
  • Self-perform civil construction experience is required
  • Concrete-only experience will not be considered for this role
  • Previous experience as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, General Foreman, or senior field leader
  • Strong understanding of grading, earthwork, drainage, utilities, paving support, and civil site construction
  • Ability to manage crews, equipment, subcontractors, schedules, and multiple work fronts
  • Experience with heavy highway, municipal, commercial, or industrial civil projects preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, schedules, and contract documents
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 10+ years of trade or field construction experience will also be considered
  • Basic understanding of construction contracts, project documentation, and field reporting
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work well with different age groups and experience levels
  • Positive, professional attitude with a team-first approach
  • Current driver's license required
