Sr. Market Design Analyst

We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Market Design Specialist to join a leading grid organization and support significant market design enhancements across wholesale electricity markets.

Job Overview

In this role, you will work closely with market design leadership to design, analyze, and evolve wholesale market structures and rules, with a core focus on efficiency, sustainability, and system reliability amid the energy transition. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary internal teams, market participants, and regulatory bodies to develop innovative market solutions that address the rapidly changing needs of the power system.

Responsibilities

Market Analysis & Research

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of electricity market trends, ISO/RTO market rules, and industry practices to inform market design decisions.
  • Benchmark market mechanisms across regions to identify opportunities for improvement or innovation.

Market Design & Technical Analysis

  • Independently perform complex studies and analytical assessments related to market design issues.
  • Develop concepts and strategies to ensure wholesale markets remain reliable, competitive, and forward-looking.
  • Apply working knowledge of market rules, governing documents, and tariffs to practical design challenges.
  • Prepare position papers and analytical materials to support internal decision-making on complex market design topics.

Stakeholder & Regulatory Engagement

  • Manage competing expectations from diverse market participant sectors.
  • Develop and present technical content to internal teams, stakeholders, and external audiences.
  • Support revisions to governing documents required to implement market design changes.
  • Partner with legal teams to support regulatory filings, including drafting documentation and supporting materials.

Project Leadership

  • Lead the implementation of complex market design initiatives, working cross-functionally to align teams and drive consensus on selected approaches.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering or analytical role within power markets or related fields.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to apply mathematical and electrical theory to real-world market problems.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues and develop defensible solutions.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Engineering or a related discipline or 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience with wholesale market operations, planning, or market design functions.
