Structural Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Structural Engineer with a strong emphasis on bridge design and analysis to join our team. This role is ideal for an engineer who is passionate about delivering high‑quality structural solutions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to transportation infrastructure projects. The engineer will support the planning, design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of bridge structures for public and private sector clients.
Key Responsibilities
Bridge Design & Analysis
- Perform structural analysis and design of bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and other transportation‑related structures.
- Develop design calculations for steel, concrete, timber, and prestressed/ post‑tensioned bridge components.
- Prepare plans, specifications, construction documents, and cost estimates in accordance with DOT and AASHTO standards.
- Model structures using industry software such as LEAP, LARSA, MIDAS, STAAD, SAP2000, or similar tools.
Project Execution
- Assist with project scoping, feasibility studies, and preliminary engineering evaluations.
- Conduct load ratings, structural assessments, and rehabilitation recommendations.
- Support preparation of technical reports, design narratives, and engineering studies.
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals during construction.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work with transportation engineers, roadway designers, geotechnical engineers, and CAD technicians to deliver cohesive project packages.
- Coordinate with DOTs, municipalities, and other agencies for permitting and design compliance.
- Participate in internal and external design review meetings.
Quality & Standards
- Ensure all engineering work meets applicable codes, guidelines, and client standards (AASHTO, LRFD, DOT design manuals).
- Support quality control processes and contribute to standard design practices within the team.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 2-10+ years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on bridges.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software.
- Strong understanding of AASHTO LRFD bridge design specifications.
- Experience with plan production in MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D.
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and technical writing skills.
Preferred
- Master's degree with structural emphasis.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Experience working on DOT bridge projects (any state).
- Familiarity with seismic design, accelerated bridge construction (ABC), or complex structure modeling.
