Role Summary
The Transmission Interconnection Specialist plays a key role in supporting the evaluation, coordination, and execution of transmission‑level interconnection projects for generation, large loads, and new infrastructure. This position works across internal engineering, planning, legal, and operations groups, as well as with external developers, grid operators, and transmission service providers.
The primary goal is to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant grid interconnections from initial scoping through commissioning.
Core Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and revise interconnection‑related agreements, engineering exhibits, scopes of work, and supporting documentation.
- Conduct technical scoping assessments, identifying system impacts, risks, and regulatory considerations.
- Collaborate with Transmission Planning and Engineering teams on:
- protection and control requirements
- metering configurations
- modeling and system upgrades
- Maintain structured documentation, communication logs, and workflow tracking for all active interconnection projects.
- Lead and document coordination meetings with project developers, regional grid authorities, and transmission service providers.
- Support identification of project risks and development of mitigation strategies.
- Ensure alignment with applicable standards, protocols, and regulatory requirements, including regional reliability rules.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders on real estate, easements, and project boundary issues.
- Recommend improvements to internal processes, templates, and workflow practices.
- Travel as needed for field assessments, substation visits, and in‑person coordination meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive project and system information.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Understanding of reliability standards, interconnection processes, regional grid protocols, and modeling principles.
- Familiarity with generation, transmission, and substation equipment used in high‑voltage interconnections.
- Ability to interpret one‑line diagrams, technical specifications, and system studies.
- Experience with transmission planning tools such as PSS®E or PowerWorld.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for summarizing findings and presenting recommendations.
- Ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document‑markup tools.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, or a related discipline (experience may substitute).
- Approximately four years of experience directly related to interconnection, transmission, or power‑system project work.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel for project coordination.
