The Opportunity

Position Summary

The Director, Operations & Maintenance reports to the Vice President, Operations and plays a critical leadership role in supporting the development, construction, and daily asset management of a portfolio of operating thermal and renewable generation assets in North America.

This role provides oversight and leadership of third‑party O&M contractors, serves as the Owner's primary interface with plant operations teams, and ensures excellence in safety, compliance, reliability, cost control, and performance optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of third‑party O&M contractors operating U.S. generating facilities.
  • Establish and manage annual performance objectives for plant O&M teams.
  • Develop, monitor, and analyze plant KPIs, performance scorecards, and benchmarking metrics focused on safety, reliability, efficiency, and cost.
  • Audit and evaluate plant operations, maintenance, and HSE performance to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Foster and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA, ISO, and internal standards.
  • Communicate effectively with internal management, plant leadership teams, and ownership stakeholders.
  • Participate in internal performance reviews, reporting on current and forecasted plant performance and identifying potential risks or concerns.
  • Manage budgets, outage planning, and lifecycle performance optimization to maximize long‑term asset value.
  • Represent the Owner's interests with OEMs, technology suppliers, and contractual service providers, including administration of warranty claims.
  • Support project development teams by advising on O&M agreement structures and conducting technical reviews of power island and balance‑of‑plant equipment.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and state‑of‑the‑art technologies through participation in user groups and industry forums.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 10-15 years of power plant operations or related technical experience, including at least 5 years in an O&M leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of power plant systems, operating philosophies, lifecycle analysis, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage financial plans, budgets, KPI scorecards, and operational resources.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
  • Highly organized, analytical, and systematic approach to technical evaluations and complex problem‑solving.
  • Strong technical competence, including familiarity with plant control systems, software, hardware, and networks.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • MBA or business‑focused degree with emphasis in business administration and/or finance.
  • Experience in strategic planning, budget development, financial assessment, and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated success in planning, budgeting, and cost management for power assets.
  • Experience supporting or adapting organizations through periods of growth and operational scaling.
  • Additional certifications or training in power plant leadership or asset management are a plus.

Travel Requirements

  • Valid U.S. passport required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally.
