Project Manager - Environmental Remediation

Location: Torrance, CA (Hybrid) Compensation: Competitive Salary + Bonus + Comprehensive Benefits

Overview

A growing environmental consulting and remediation firm is seeking a Project Manager to support complex site investigation, remediation, and environmental compliance projects throughout Southern California. This role is ideal for an Environmental Engineer or Geologist with experience managing technically complex remediation projects involving soil, groundwater, and soil vapor impacts under California regulatory programs.

The successful candidate will possess a strong technical foundation, project management experience, and working knowledge of California environmental regulations. Candidates with a Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license are strongly preferred. Individuals actively pursuing licensure (EIT or GIT) may also be considered if they have a defined timeline for obtaining their professional registration.

Responsibilities

  • Manage environmental investigation and remediation projects from proposal through closure.
  • Coordinate and oversee field activities including:
    • Soil investigations
    • Groundwater investigations and monitoring
    • Soil vapor investigations
    • Remedial system design, implementation, and optimization
  • Develop and execute site characterization programs to define the nature and extent of contamination.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, work plans, remedial action plans, and regulatory deliverables.
  • Interface directly with regulatory agencies, clients, subcontractors, and internal technical staff.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, scopes, invoicing, and client communications.
  • Oversee field teams and technical staff while ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Support business development efforts through proposal preparation and client relationship management.
  • Evaluate remediation strategies and assist in developing cost-effective solutions for contaminated sites.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in:

    • Geology
    • Geological Engineering
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Civil Engineering (with environmental concentration)
    • Other closely related engineering or geoscience discipline
  • Environmental Studies, Environmental Policy, Sustainability, or similar non-licensure-track degrees are unlikely to meet requirements.

  • Minimum 5 years of environmental consulting, remediation, or investigation experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of project management experience managing scope, schedule, budget, and client deliverables.

  • Strong technical report writing and data interpretation skills.

  • Experience with:

    • Soil contamination investigations
    • Groundwater assessment and remediation
    • Soil vapor investigations
    • Site characterization
    • Remedial design and implementation
  • Working knowledge of California environmental regulations and agency programs.

  • Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and preparing technical submittals.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to visit project sites throughout Southern California.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current California Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license.
  • Candidates with an active EIT or GIT who are planning to sit for the PE or PG exam in the near future will also be considered.
  • Experience with remediation programs involving:
    • Chlorinated solvents (PCE, TCE, and related compounds)
    • Petroleum hydrocarbons
    • Vapor intrusion assessment
  • Familiarity with remedial technologies such as:
    • Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE)
    • Air Sparging (AS)
    • In-Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO)
    • In-Situ Bioremediation (ISB)
    • Groundwater extraction and treatment systems
  • Experience managing projects under DTSC, Regional Water Board, and other California regulatory frameworks.

Ideal Background

We're particularly interested in candidates who have worked on projects involving the investigation and cleanup of contaminated soil, groundwater, and vapor impacts, rather than professionals whose experience is limited primarily to Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs, or environmental due diligence/property transaction work. The ideal candidate has experience defining the extent of contamination, developing remediation strategies, and implementing cleanup solutions through regulatory closure.

Location Requirement

This position is based in Torrance, CA. Candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the office and project sites throughout the Los Angeles area. Frequent collaboration with project teams, clients, and regulators makes local presence important for long-term success.
