Lead Mechanical Engineer - Power Generation
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)
Compensation: $180,000 - $220,000 Base + Bonus
LVI Associates is working with a leading engineering and energy organization seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to support utility-scale power generation projects across North America. This position offers the opportunity to lead complex engineering projects involving thermal power generation, combined-cycle facilities, plant modernization efforts, and critical energy infrastructure.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual design through commissioning, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting key client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical engineering activities for power generation projects.
- Provide technical direction for the design and analysis of steam turbines, gas turbines, boilers, HRSGs, balance of plant systems, piping systems, rotating equipment, and auxiliary plant equipment.
- Review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical documents.
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, vendors, and engineering teams to ensure project success.
- Support plant modernization, reliability improvement, uprate, and lifecycle extension initiatives.
- Conduct site visits, field inspections, and commissioning support as required.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers.
- Assist with project execution, budgeting, scheduling, and technical problem-solving.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience within the power generation industry.
- Experience supporting utility-scale power generation projects.
- Strong understanding of thermal power plant systems and operations.
- Knowledge of ASME codes and applicable industry standards.
- Proven ability to lead engineering projects and work directly with clients.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Combined-cycle power plant experience.
- Nuclear generation experience.
- EPC consulting experience.
- Experience with plant reliability, performance improvement, or asset management programs.
