A well-established heavy civil general contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager / Estimator to join its team in Billings, Montana. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional who enjoys both the operational and preconstruction sides of the business while working on impactful infrastructure projects throughout the region.
The successful candidate will be responsible for estimating, planning, managing, and delivering heavy civil projects while maintaining strong relationships with owners, subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel.
Responsibilities
- Prepare competitive estimates and bid proposals for heavy civil projects.
- Analyze plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Develop project budgets, schedules, and work plans.
- Manage multiple projects from award through closeout.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field operations.
- Track costs, production, and project performance.
- Negotiate change orders and manage contract administration.
- Mentor project engineers and support field leadership.
- Maintain strong client relationships and assist with business development efforts.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Experience Needed
- Experience managing heavy civil construction projects as a Project Manager, Estimator, or PM/Estimator.
- Background working on earthwork, excavation, grading, utilities, site development, transportation, roadway, bridge, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience preparing estimates and managing projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with self-perform construction operations.
- Strong understanding of subcontractor management and procurement.
- Experience preparing quantity takeoffs, bid packages, and cost analyses.
- Proven ability to manage project schedules, budgets, and forecasting.
- Experience working directly with owners, engineers, and public agencies.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of heavy civil construction experience.
- Strong estimating and project management capabilities.
- Proficiency with HCSS, HeavyBid, Agtek, Bluebeam, Bid2Win, or similar estimating software.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of heavy civil means and methods.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
