Senior Electrical Engineer
Responsibilities
- Contribute across multiple phases of solar PV projects, including site assessments, CAD drafting, design development, construction documentation, and construction support.
- Lead the development of complete electrical designs, ensuring high-quality deliverables for concept, design development, and final construction packages.
- Design experience spanning both Commercial & Industrial (C&I) systems and utility-scale ground-mounted solar projects (5MW+).
- Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is preferred; experience integrating storage into solar projects is a plus.
Design Ownership & Accountability
Act as the primary design authority on assigned projects
Independently produce complete electrical designs without requiring senior-level review
Maintain full responsibility for design accuracy, constructability, and code compliance
Make final decisions on system layouts, equipment selection, and interpretation of applicable codes
Deliver permit-ready and issued-for-construction (IFC) drawing packages suitable for client submission
Support and mentor junior engineers in preparing drawings and calculations
Operate with a high degree of autonomy as a senior engineer, producing work with minimal oversight
Participate in client meetings and technical discussions as needed
Manage deliverables within established project budgets
Execute engineering tasks independently, including:
- Solar PV system design
- Detailed energy modeling using PVsyst
- Preparation of construction drawings using AutoCAD
- Voltage drop analysis and conductor/raceway sizing
- Short circuit and fault current calculations
- Electrical distribution design and single-line diagrams
- Code compliance review
- Development of project specifications
- Protective device coordination and relay setting validation (where applicable)
- Interconnection design strategy, including utility coordination and POI design
- Medium voltage collection system design for utility-scale projects
- Identification and mitigation of system risks (e.g., voltage rise, thermal constraints, fault duty)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in commercial solar design
- Demonstrated ability to independently deliver full electrical design packages (not solely within a review-heavy team structure)
- Experience serving as the final design authority for deliverables submitted to clients, utilities, or AHJs
- Strong ability to communicate and defend technical design decisions to external stakeholders
- Proven experience producing high-quality construction documents in a senior design capacity while supporting junior team members
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and related design software
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office and industry tools such as ETAP and PVsyst
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
