Help Deliver the Next Generation of Water Reuse Infrastructure
A nationally recognized water infrastructure consulting firm is seeking a senior engineering leader to help deliver some of California's most transformative water reuse and wastewater treatment projects.
This role offers the opportunity to lead large-scale programs focused on sustainable water supply, advanced treatment technologies, and critical infrastructure investments that will help communities meet long-term water reliability goals.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise, project leadership experience, and client relationship skills with a passion for advancing innovative water solutions.
The Opportunity
You'll serve as a senior technical and project leader overseeing complex water reuse, wastewater treatment, and utility infrastructure projects for public agencies and utility clients.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you'll guide projects from planning and design through construction while helping clients navigate technical challenges, regulatory requirements, and long-term infrastructure investments.
What You'll Be Doing
Project Leadership
- Lead and manage major water reuse, wastewater treatment, and utility infrastructure projects.
- Direct project delivery from planning and preliminary engineering through design and construction support.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, scope, quality, and contractual commitments.
- Make high-level technical decisions and provide guidance on complex engineering challenges.
- Coordinate internal teams, subconsultants, and project stakeholders.
Client Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal agencies, utilities, and infrastructure owners.
- Anticipate client needs and recommend practical, long-term solutions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on planning, treatment, conveyance, and reuse initiatives.
- Support client satisfaction and long-term account growth.
Technical Expertise
- Provide expertise in:
- Wastewater treatment systems
- Advanced water reuse programs
- Water recycling infrastructure
- Treatment plant design and upgrades
- Conveyance and pumping systems
- Hydraulic analysis and process evaluation
- Utility master planning
- Infrastructure modernization projects
- Prepare and review technical reports, engineering studies, and design documentation.
- Evaluate innovative technologies and emerging treatment approaches.
Business Development & Growth
- Support strategic pursuits, proposals, interviews, and contract negotiations.
- Develop relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Identify new opportunities within the water sector.
- Contribute to long-term business growth initiatives.
Team Leadership
- Mentor engineers and technical professionals.
- Provide guidance on project execution and technical development.
- Assist with recruiting and team-building efforts.
- Foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing across project teams.
Industry Engagement
- Participate in professional organizations, technical committees, and industry conferences.
- Contribute thought leadership through presentations, publications, and client engagement.
- Stay current on regulatory changes, emerging technologies, and industry trends.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 10+ years of engineering consulting experience.
- Strong background in wastewater treatment, water reuse, or related utility infrastructure.
- Experience managing large and complex engineering projects.
- Knowledge of treatment processes, hydraulic systems, and infrastructure planning.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and client-facing skills.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred Experience
- Master's degree in engineering or related field.
- Advanced water treatment or potable reuse experience.
- Membrane treatment technologies and advanced process design.
- Design-build project delivery.
- Construction phase engineering and field support.
- Experience managing project financial performance and quality programs.
