Building Automation Systems (BAS) Project Manager

Location: Tampa, FL

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) Project Manager to lead the successful execution of building automation projects from award through completion. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership, financial accountability, and customer relationship management. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of HVAC controls, building automation systems, and the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) trades.

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating field and office activities, managing project schedules and budgets, overseeing subcontractors and vendors, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while exceeding client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Manage the full lifecycle of BAS projects from kickoff through closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate engineering, programming, commissioning, installation, and startup activities.
  • Collaborate with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Identify project risks and implement proactive solutions to maintain schedule and budget performance.

Financial Management

  • Maintain financial ownership of assigned projects, including forecasting, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Manage project billing, invoicing, change orders, and financial reporting.
  • Procure materials, equipment, and subcontractor services while maximizing project profitability.
  • Monitor labor utilization and project costs to ensure financial targets are achieved.

Customer & Team Leadership

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout project execution.
  • Lead project meetings and provide regular updates on progress, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through exceptional service and communication.
  • Support field technicians, programmers, and commissioning teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Technical Oversight

  • Review BAS design documents, control drawings, sequences of operation, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate installation activities and ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Assist with troubleshooting technical and operational challenges during project execution.
  • Ensure systems are properly commissioned and delivered according to client expectations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience managing Building Automation, HVAC Controls, or related construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of BAS/DDC systems, HVAC equipment, controls integration, and MEP systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and customer relationships.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans, electrical drawings, control diagrams, and specifications.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with leading BAS/DDC platforms and building automation technologies.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management training.
  • Previous field experience as a Controls Technician, Systems Specialist, Commissioning Agent, or Controls Engineer.
