The team delivers a varied portfolio of projects across the public and private sectors, including:

  • Commercial developments
  • Residential communities
  • Industrial sites
  • Institutional and civic facilities
  • Public infrastructure improvements
  • Mixed-use and community development projects

You will work closely with experienced project managers, engineers, surveyors, planners, architects, developers, permitting authorities, and construction teams. The position offers a clear route toward greater design responsibility, client exposure, and eventual project management.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Work on a diverse portfolio rather than one repetitive project type
  • Gain exposure from due diligence through construction
  • Receive direct mentorship from experienced Professional Engineers
  • Develop toward PE licensure with meaningful project experience
  • Build strong technical capability in Civil 3D
  • Work closely with surveying, planning, architecture, environmental, and infrastructure specialists
  • Join a collaborative office where junior engineers can contribute ideas and take ownership
  • Develop a long-term career path into project engineering and project management
  • Work on projects with a visible impact across communities in Alabama

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and design of site and land development projects
  • Prepare grading, drainage, utility, erosion-control, and site layout plans
  • Use Autodesk Civil 3D to produce detailed engineering drawings and complete plan sets
  • Perform basic hydrology and hydraulic calculations
  • Assist with stormwater management and site drainage design
  • Review survey information, topographic data, and existing site conditions
  • Support technical due diligence and preliminary site assessments
  • Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, architects, developers, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Assist with municipal, state, and local permitting
  • Prepare and edit technical specifications and supporting documentation
  • Apply relevant engineering standards, development regulations, and local codes
  • Support project schedules, deliverables, and internal quality reviews
  • Attend occasional client, permitting, and project coordination meetings
  • Visit construction sites to observe progress and general compliance with the design
  • Identify technical concerns and communicate potential project risks to senior team members

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Approximately 2+ years of civil engineering or site development experience
  • Experience supporting commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, or municipal projects
  • Working knowledge of grading, drainage, utilities, and site design
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D
  • Familiarity with surveying information and site-development plans
  • Engineer-in-Training certification, or eligibility and willingness to complete the FE exam
  • A clear intention to pursue Professional Engineer licensure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a multidisciplinary environment
  • A proactive, dependable, and collaborative approach
  • The ability to work primarily from the Montgomery-area office

Previous internship or co-op experience in land development, municipal engineering, construction, or site design may also be considered.

Working Environment

This is primarily an office-based design position, with approximately 10% local fieldwork for site visits, project meetings, construction observations, and permitting coordination.

Appropriate safety equipment will be provided or required when attending active construction sites.
