Engineering Area Manager | Washington, DC

A 100% employee-owned, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm with more than 2,800 professionals nationwide is seeking a senior leader to drive growth, profitability, and operational excellence across Northern Virginia and Washington, DC.

This role is focused on supporting regional operations through strategic planning, business development, financial management, and leadership of multidisciplinary teams serving transportation, water, energy, environmental, facilities, and technology markets.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Provide leadership and direction to office leaders while supporting regional growth objectives.
  • Collaborate with business line, market, and service leaders to align growth strategies, pursue new opportunities, and strengthen client relationships.
  • Drive staff development, succession planning, mentorship, and employee engagement across the region.
  • Provide executive oversight of major projects, including project performance, contracting strategy, scope management, and financial reviews.
  • Expand market presence through business development efforts and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Promote innovation, technology adoption, and effective resource-sharing across offices.
  • Oversee financial performance, including revenue growth, profitability, backlog management, utilization, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow.

Ideal Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional registration.
  • 20+ years of experience in engineering consulting, including leadership, project oversight, client development, and business growth.
  • Proven ability to lead within a matrixed AEC environment and manage high-performing teams.
  • Experience working with state DOTs, counties, municipalities, and other public-sector clients.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets, forecasts, utilization, and profitability metrics.

Compensation: $220,000-$270,000+ annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and professional credentials.
