Geotechnical Department Manager - Dallas

Geotechnical Department Manager - Dallas, TX

We are partnered with a growing engineering consultancy in the Dallas Fort Worth market that is looking to appoint an experienced Geotechnical Department Manager to lead and scale a high-performing team across North Texas.

This is a key leadership role for someone who understands the pace and complexity of commercial construction testing and is ready to take ownership of operations, people, and growth within a well-established but evolving business unit.

The Opportunity

This position offers the chance to lead an established Geotechnical division focused primarily on commercial, industrial, and retail projects, with some exposure to municipal work. Unlike heavily transportation-focused environments, this group operates across a diverse portfolio with consistent repeat work and strong client relationships.

You will have full responsibility for team performance, financial delivery, and client development, with the autonomy to shape the department and take it to the next level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a Geotechnical department of 15+ staff, including field technicians, project managers, and support personnel
  • Oversee department operations with responsibility for a $5M+ revenue portfolio
  • Drive project delivery quality, safety, and client satisfaction across all engagements
  • Develop and maintain client relationships, with a focus on repeat business and strategic growth
  • Mentor and develop staff, building a strong internal culture and future leadership pipeline
  • Manage utilisation, forecasting, and departmental P&L
  • Address operational challenges proactively in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering
  • Proven experience managing teams, or someone ready to step into a full department leadership role
  • Strong technical understanding of Geotechnical services in commercial and industrial markets
  • Experience working within similar environments
  • Texas Professional Engineer (PE) licence required
  • Established client relationships or the ability to bring a network is highly desirable

The Ideal Profile

We are looking for someone who is not only technically sound but also:

  • Comfortable leading from the front and addressing challenges head-on
  • Thrives in a fast moving, high change environment
  • Strong communicator with excellent people leadership skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, someone who recognises they can do more and wants the platform to prove it
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and committed to building a strong team culture

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to step into a leadership position where:

  • You will have real autonomy and influence over how the department operates and grows
  • The work portfolio is aligned with top industry players, offering familiarity with room to innovate
  • You can make a tangible impact on team culture, performance, and long-term growth
  • The business values attitude, flexibility, and leadership potential as much as technical expertise
