Our client is a growing and well-established heavy civil construction company dedicated to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects throughout the Sacramento region. Their work spans complex public and private projects, and they pride themselves on safety, innovation, and excellence in execution. They are seeking a driven and experienced Heavy Civil Project Manager to join their team.


Position Summary

The Heavy Civil Project Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing heavy civil construction projects from inception to completion. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage budgets, schedules, and project teams effectively.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple heavy civil construction projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget
  • Oversee project planning, including scheduling, procurement, and resource allocation
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and key stakeholders
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, cost tracking, and forecasting
  • Review and interpret plans, specifications, and contracts
  • Coordinate with field teams, superintendents, and subcontractors to ensure project execution aligns with scope and schedule
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and resolve issues as they arise
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company policies
  • Support estimating and preconstruction efforts as needed

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Project Manager working on heavy civil construction projects in the Sacramento area
  • Proven experience in one or more of the following:
    • Heavy road and highway construction
    • Asphalt and/or concrete paving and grading
    • Bridge construction
    • Excavation
    • Underground utilities
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and best practices
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications
  • Experience managing budgets, schedules, and subcontractors
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar)
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
