Senior Environmental Engineer (California PE) - Remote, Western USA

Base Salary: $120,000 - $160,000

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to serve as the Engineering Lead for our Client's firm. This is a fully remote position open to candidates based anywhere in the Western USA, with our Client's California office headquartered in Sacramento. The Engineering Lead will play a pivotal role in stamping project deliverables and reports, providing senior technical oversight across our site remediation portfolio, and mentoring E.I.T.s and junior engineering staff as they progress toward licensure. This position is ideal for a seasoned PE who is looking to make a broad technical impact while enjoying the flexibility of a remote work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the firm's Engineering Lead, providing senior technical oversight on site remediation projects across the Western USA.
  • Stamp and seal engineering drawings, technical reports, workplans, and project deliverables as the California Professional Engineer of record.
  • Lead the design, implementation, optimization, and operations & maintenance (O&M) of remediation systems, including groundwater treatment, soil vapor extraction, in-situ treatment, and related technologies.
  • Provide senior QA/QC review of engineering calculations, remedial designs, and technical reports produced by project teams.
  • Mentor and develop E.I.T.s and junior engineers, supporting their progression toward PE licensure through technical guidance, project exposure, and career development.
  • Collaborate with project managers, geologists, and field staff to deliver technically sound, cost-effective remediation solutions.
  • Interface with clients, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors to support project execution and business development efforts.
  • Contribute to strategic technical direction of the firm, including evaluation of emerging remediation technologies and approaches.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, or a related engineering discipline (Master's preferred).
  • Active California Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of environmental consulting experience preferred; candidates from state regulatory agencies or in-house/industry roles with equivalent technical experience will also be strongly considered.
  • Deep technical background in site remediation, including remedial design, implementation, system optimization, and long-term O&M.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable federal and California regulatory frameworks (RCRA, CERCLA, DTSC, RWQCB, SWRCB).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams, provide senior QA/QC, and mentor developing engineers.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and client-facing skills.
  • Prior experience serving as an Engineer of Record or technical lead.

Location & Travel

  • Remote - candidates may be based anywhere in the Western USA.
  • California office is located in Sacramento, CA.
  • Occasional travel to project sites, client offices, and the Sacramento office as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $120,000 - $160,000, commensurate with experience and licensure.
